Andrew's style as a conductor has been formed from his own experiences playing under many different world class conductors during his professional career as Tuba player playing in the Hallé and with other professional orchestras. | | Andrew and the Whitburn Band with the talented young Gaelic singer Catriona Watt during a performance of his arrangement of the ancient Gaelic song, 'Ribhan Donn' (Brown haired girl). Andrew began his conducting career shortly after leaving the Hallé Orchestra with the Hepworth Band making his first contest appearance at Pontins in 2000 then at the Yorkshire Areas in 2001. Following his move to Scotland he took Kingdom Brass to the Scottish Championships in 2003 then later in the year took the Whitburn Band to the West Lothian Challenge. At his first appearance conducting at the British Open, he led Whitburn Band to 2nd place, the best result by any Scottish band in the British Open's 153 year history. Following this, Andrew was appointed Principal Conductor of the Whitburn Band. In October 2004 he took the Silkeborg Blaesern (Denmark) to the 2004 Danish National Championships. | Andrew and Whitburn Band having some fun at Spennymoor Brass in Concert 2004, during a spirited rendition of 'The Bass Boys'.
