Andrew Duncan: Conductor, Composer/Arranger.

Andrew Duncan was the Principal Tuba player in the Hallé Orchestra for 16 years from 1984 to 2000, during which time he started to write and arrange music. In 1994 his 'Concerto for Trombone' was premiered by the Hallé Orchestra with Andrew Berryman as Soloist, and in 2000 his composition 'A Tale of Two Empires' was premiered by the Hallé at their 'Last Night of the Proms'.

He has written many arrangements and compositions for Orchestra, Concert Band, Brass Quintet and for Brass Band, all of which can all be found on this site.

He left the Hallé in 2000 and started conducting for the first time becoming Musical Director of the Hepworth Band. In 2001 he moved to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis and founded the 'Lewis Music Press' an independent micro-publisher set up initially for publishing and distributing his own works.

Andrew is busy as a conductor, writer and adjudicator. In 2003 he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Whitburn Band after leading them to 2nd place at the British Open. The highest ever placing at the British Open by a Scottish band.

Andrew is also busy as a freelance conductor working with a number of other bands throughout the year.

As a writer Andrew enjoys a reputation as one of the most successful and prolific band arrangers of his generation, and his compositions and arrangements are regularly played, recorded and broadcast by bands all over the world.
